Lackawaxen River

This large river consists of swift pools, along with short runs, rifts,
and large pocket water. The overhanging trees and deep water help
keep the trout happy all year. Fly fishermen are encouraged by the
high amount of trout they find throughout the system. There are
stocked and wild fish. Flowing into the Delaware River, the
Lackawaxen is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Trout over 15
inches are common and very large trout are caught each year. The
river is influenced by the dam discharge flow from Lake
Wallenpaupack. Access is sometime limited due to the dam release.
Access is somewhat easy but can be limited to the roadside shore
line. Flowing almost 30 miles, the Lackawaxen is worth exploring.
Hatches are Caddis, Hendricksons, March Browns, Sulphurs and
Green Drakes. One other think about the the Lackawaxen, it has a
very slippery bottom, studded wading boots are highly
recommended. Also, be willing to walk and cover the more remote
areas for some great fishing.
