|Valley Creek is a spring fed limestone stream in southeastern, Pennsylvania that hosts a large population of wild
brown trout. Fish can be caught year round on Valley Creek which is made possible by catch and release
regulations, ensuring a thriving Class A wild brown trout fishery. There is absolutely no stocking in Valley Creek.
Not only is Valley Creek a Class A wild brown trout stream by Pennsylvania standards but it holds three times the
number of wild brown trout for it to receive that designation. Brown trout between 15 to 20 inches are caught
with regularity but most fish will average between 6 to 9 inches. Though Valley Creek flows through a highly
developed area, the majority of it flows through wooded parks and residential areas. The most popular stretch of
water is located in Valley Forge National Park but excellent fishing can be found throughout the entire creek.
Obey all signage that indicates private property. Light rods, lines and tippets are essential on Valley Creek and
casting quarters are tight. Blue Wing Olives, Caddis, Craneflies and Midges are the main hatches and they bring
lots of fish to the surface. Fishing small Pheasant Tail nymphs, Gold Ribbed Hares Ear nymphs, midges and scuds
will produce fish year round. During late summer and fall when the stream banks are loaded with grasshoppers,
crickets, beetles and ants fishing can be very productive. The Valley Forge Trout Unlimited Chapter has been
phenomenal in their efforts in preserving Valley Creek as a wild trout fishery. By Nick Raftas
